The Perfect Vegan Teddy Bear’s Picnic
July 10 is Teddy Bear’s Picnic Day. Yay! If you’ve got your favorite plushie from childhood, bring them along with your child’s favorites, too. Even if they’re not a bear, I think this holiday is for every plushie! Here’s how to celebrate with your kids and the plushies!
Pick a Spot
The right spot is important for any picnic. If you’ve got a great backyard, feel free to use that. If not, pick a local park that’s easy to access since you’ll be carrying teddy bears and picnic supplies. Bonus if there’s a beautiful view, garden, or other features to look at.
Pack a Picnic Basket
The right food and a comfortable blanket and key to the perfect teddy bear’s picnic celebration. These tasty, fun, and easy to make goodies provide a well-balanced meal and are sure to be a hit with everyone!
Fun Shaped Veggies
Your kids may not love their veggies, but what if you cut them into fun shapes? Carrots? Now they’re shapes from nature – trees, stars, moons, etc. Pack those up with a yummy vegan dip like this easy ranch, and you’ve got a snack the kids and the teddy bears will love.
PB and J Sammies
This childhood classic is already vegan, depending on the bread and gelling agent for the jelly (most use pectin, which is fine). Use your kid’s favorite jelly flavor and peanut butter to make a healthy, fun lunch for your teddy bear’s picnic. Be sure to pack enough for the plushies, too!
Note: if your child has a nut allergy, you could use a different spread or try this easy vegan tuna recipe.
Vegan Brownies
Brownies are easy to pack in a picnic basket and a truly delicious treat. If you’re comfortable giving your child sugar and chocolate sometimes, I suggest this yummy recipe. For a sugar-free option, check out these blondies. You could leave out or replace the chocolate chips as well.
Beverages
Hydration is important, especially during the summer. Water, juice boxes, and/or a thermos of lemonade are great options for a teddy bear’s picnic. Be sure to pack enough for the plushies, too.
Other Supplies
Depending on where you’re having the picnic, you may also want to pack:
Blanket and/or chairs to sit on
Swimming trunks and towels
Change of clothes for kids and plushies
Wagon or stroller
A book to read. I suggest Valentine’s Adventures, which is all about a teddy bear’s day out exploring. You can see the real life Valentine Bear in the photo above.
